A good communication strategy is a must when dealing with crisis situations

Two representatives of the BNLD network participated in the first regional workshop “Advancing Communication, Advocacy and Networking Skills” organized by the Regional Civil Society Development Hub – Balkan Civil Society Development Network.

The regional workshop took place in the city of Struga, which lies on the shore of the beautiful Ohrid Lake  in North Macedonia, from the 28th till the 30th of June.

On the first day of the workshop, Ms Glenis Balangue, CPDE Capacity Development Coordinator, talked about network management, especially in the context of CPDE’s advocacy for effective development cooperation. Through several exercises, the participants from several networks from North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania were introduced with the tools, resources, and practical guidance for improving their operations and organizational practices.

The strengthening of the CSOs’ communication skills and the relationship between CSOs and the journalists/media was the focus for the second day of the regional workshop.

Ms. Kristina Ozimec, Communication and Media Expert, talked about improving cooperation between journalists and CSOs and how to find the newsworthy in the everyday work of CSOs. Ms. Kristina also gave advice for building communication strategies, as well as crisis communication strategies for civil society organizations. She also gave guidance on how CSOs can better prepare for facing a variety of crisis situations and answer them in a timely and efficient manner.

The main output of this workshop was the creation of communication strategies/plans of the CSOs, including crisis communication, and the joint action plans of the CSOs and journalists.
